Well, let us see how this works.

September 23, 2010

So, Lindsay is going to Kelowna tomorrow. This means that I will be all by my lonesome for the next few days. Booo! Such is life I guess. I was going to be going as well, but my new job dictates that I should be at work for the next few days.

So that’s the short update for today.

Today is an off day.

September 13, 2010

I haven’t accomplished much today, and I wasn’t really expecting to. I woke up this morning – I slept in, but that’s okay, because I had no plans, and nothing to be late for. There was nothing to eat for breakfast, so Lindsay made a shopping list and I started a load of laundry. After a cup of coffee, we went to the nearby CO-OP to get groceries. Bananas, apples, meats, breads, and lunch stuff; then I took Lindsay to school, as that is what she does on some days. My next stop was at the community garden in the community that we are no longer members of, but we still have the garden spot. I picked several beets, yellow and green courgettes, spinach, Swiss chard, beans, and radish pods. I didn’t know at first what the radish pods were, I had to Google them to find out that they are neither a weed, nor poisonous. I came home after this gardening time and put the produce upstairs, then I finished the laundry stuff, bringing the clean clothes upstairs and putting them in a pile in the middle of the bed. I then returned to my car, gathered up the remainder of the groceries, and brought them home as well. I then put all of the groceries away.

It’s been some time

September 12, 2010

It happens from time to time that time will pass unnoticed. I’ve recently moved, and changed careers. These are two big changes that take time and can be stressful sometimes. Lindsay and I are now without room-mates, this is very important, because as much as we like the people we have lived with in the past, we – I at least – are much happier being able to be away from people when we can. Alone time is good time for the introverted. Solitude can be quite relaxing. I have a new job with a large computer shop in the city, and things are going quite well! The pace is invigorating, there is a tonne to learn, and the scope of work available is astounding. I get to fix things, which is always somewhat fun – diagnosing and troubleshooting are meditative. I get to teach classes, not very often right now, but I’m hoping to get some more experience. The first lesson I gave was introducing a person to their new product, I must say that helping a person learn and explore is a great feeling; it’s difficult for me, because I am essentially at the same knowledge level as some of the people I’m teaching, but I think that this possibly makes it even more fun since the process becomes more about discovery than instruction.

Day 2 of the new shift.

July 7, 2010

Buh, it’s going to be tough getting used to waking up at 5 AM almost every day. My new schedule at work started, I now am working 7:00AM through 4:00PM instead of 9:00AM through 6:00PM. This means that in order to get to work on time, the latest I can leave in the morning is 6:20, in reality this means that the latest that I will now leave for work is 6:00AM. I prefer to be early.

It’s good though, getting off work at 4:00PM means that I now have a little extra time in the afternoon to maybe make dinner more often instead of eating whatever crap happens to be handy. Maybe there will be health benefits? I don’t know.

Who am I kidding.

June 28, 2010

I know I have nothing to say. That’s a line from something by either King Missile or John S. Hall. It’s also on a t-shirt that Lindsay made for me which is awesome. Sometimes I get ideas that I think would be good things to write about, but then I forget them. Those ideas never make there way here. Because I forgot what they are. So instead of writing good things, I spew randomness at the ‘world’ with reckless abandon. I doesn’t matter too much though, it’s not as though this is the most popular blog in the ‘sphere. I could write about space aliens, government conspiracies, miracles, my vast wealth, or any number of fictional things and the impact I make would barely be a ripple in the vast ocean of misinformation on the Internet.

I’m sure that there are space aliens out there somewhere, though I doubt that a human or any other creature on earth has ever seen one. It’s not likely that they ever will either. Actually, if you think about it the right way, we — human beings — are space aliens. After all, we are creatures of this planet who have the ability to leave. We can actually go into space in our own special little vehichles. That’s awesome. Of course, we can’t go very far. We’re quite dependent on the resources that we have on Earth, and we don’t really have a good way of getting those things elsewhere. Liquid water is particularly necessary, but as far as we can tell, it’s not readily available on our nearby neighbours in this solar system.

I can imagine that if we ever found life on another planet (or life-supporting object in the universe), we humans would probably call it alien, even if we are the ones invading it’s space… ha ha “space,” “aliens”…. get it?

Anyways, like I was saying, the government would probably totally cover it up if a space program ever found intelligent life on another planet, because clearly most people in the world would totally freak out at the idea. Alien cults would take over as the most popular religion, Jesus wouldn’t be white anymore! He’d be green, and that’s just too un-American. Not that I’m an American, I’m Canadian, but Canada would probably follow the USofA’s lead in this type of circumstance.

Walky

June 14, 2010

I just went for a walk with Linds. we should do that more often because I got winded after less than a couple of blocks. Not much else to say today… things are going along at their usual pace, work is work, life is life, and that is that.

Writer's Block

June 14, 2010

I found this wine at J. Webb Market. It has a picture of Shakespeare on the front and a long and eloquent quote on the back extolling the values of good wine and going on at length about the horrors of the affliction known as “Writer’s Block” It’s quite a tasty syrah, lighter bodied than I am accustomed, but not so light that I think it’s white. It’s kind of fruity and coffee-y, and I’m definitely a fan.

I am drinking wine and listening to “Children’s Music” because I really like They Might Be Giants. I have Here Comes Science, and Here Come The 123′s. They are very rad. I don’t think it’s “children’s” music though, it’s just cool tunes that are about interesting things.

A Good Time Was Had by All.

May 23, 2010

Dinner was a hit I think. BBQ’ed Ribs and Pork Tenderloin Roast. I think the Roast got a bit dry and the ribs were not what you could plausibly call “Fall off the Bone”. but the flavours were all good and the assortments of salads were excellent. There were also some last-minute potatoes that went over quite well. Conversations were plentiful as was the beer, rye, vodka, and wine.

There was some small talk of finding a Hot Tub, but that didn’t quite pan out. An injury put a damper on the evening, it involved an errant spark from the fire pit and someone’s eyeball(not mine). Hopefully there isn’t too much dammage, but I think a visit to a doctor in the morning would be a good idea.

My cousin brought her boyfriend down to meet the whole family for the first time. He seemed to take it well, and was well recieved in turn; which is good, because it would suck to travel across the entire country and then get into a fistfight with imaginary uncle Ralph.

The normal huge crowd of people was not so much of an issue this time because the party was somewhat split between inside and outside. So there was two medium sized groups rather than one huge throng. I think I can handle the medium sized groups much better — I tend to get antsy in large groups, I’m not really fond of crowds. It’s not as bad when it’s family, but It’s never my favourite thing.

Now its ten to one in the A.M., I really should go to bed. We are apparently going to see the Wolf sanctuary in the morning.

Golden, here I come!

May 21, 2010

I’m going to Golden tomorrow for my parents’ anniversary party. I’m pretty sure that there will be much merriment and what not. I’m looking forward to it.
I like big family gatherings, they remind me of how lucky I am to have such a big and close-knit group of people in my life. And this promises to be a “big” family gathering, thanks in no small way to my sister whom I suspect played a significant part in organizing the event!

Happy May Long Weekend folks!

Yeah…
